Vickers was victorious in all three of her singles matches at the New England Championships hosted by Sacred Heart. The first-year Bulldog conquered the No. 4 Flight by posting a trio of straight-set victories. First, she made quick work of Hartford’s Nikki Haynal, 6-2, 6-2, in the her quarterfinal match. In the semifinal round, Vickers blanked veteran Delaney Downing of NEC rival Sacred Heart, 6-0, 6-0. She completed her title run by defeating UConn’s Lauren Wilmarth, 6-4, 6-4. The Colorado resident becomes the first Bryant Bulldog to claim the NEC’s rookie award since Claudio Hidalgo won her second of two last season on March 16, 2010.
