O’Donnell spearheaded the Robert Morris defensive effort last week with seven ground balls and eight caused turnovers as the Colonials earned a spot in the NEC Tournament and pushed their win streak to five games with victories over fellow contenders Mount St. Mary’s (15-12) and Monmouth (11-8). She also scored five goals, added two assists and won five draws. In Friday’s triumph over the Mountaineers, O’Donnell caused six turnovers for the third time this year, matching her NEC single-game season-high total. She claimed five ground balls and netted four goals in one of the top all-around performances in the league this season. Two days later, the junior recorded two caused turnovers and two ground balls, to go along with a goal, two assists and three draw controls against the Hawks. O’Donnell, who hails from Portland, OR, leads the nation with 3.47 caused turnovers per game and ranks third with 3.67 ground balls per contest. Last week she become the first player in NCAA history to record 50 or more ground balls and 50 or more caused turnovers in the same season (the NCAA began recording caused turnover stats in 2001).
