Gelman capped a phenomenal season for Bryant freshmen by notching the program’s sixth NEC Rookie of the Week award of the academic year. On the way to the second NEC weekly award of his freshman campaign, Gelman posted a pair of No. 4 singles wins over his counterparts from non-conference opponents Hofstra and Stony Brook. Gelman needed little time to fly past Hofstra’s Matt Gemmell, 6-2, 6-1, as part of the Bulldogs’ 5-2 team win over the CAA member. Gelman prevailed in a three-set match the following day. He outlasted Stony Brook’s Roope Kailaheimo, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to earn a crucial team point in Bryant’s 4-3 upset of America East member Stony Brook. Bryant freshman Dana Parziale picked up a team-leading three NEC Rookie of the Week awards (Mar. 29, Mar. 1, Sept. 28) this academic year, while Vidith Huot earned the honor once back on Oct. 12, 2010.
