Kasyanov continued to wield the hottest racket in the NEC last week. The 2010 NEC Player of the Year won all five of his No. 1 singles matches and rides an 18-match win streak heading into the 2011 NEC Championships, which will commence on April 15-17 in West Windsor, NJ. On the way to his second consecutive NEC Player of the Week award, Kasyanov defeated the top singles players from Fairfield, Quinnipiac, St. Francis (NY), Niagara, and Fordham. The first win of the week was the toughest for Kasyanov. After dropping the first set to Fairfield’s Joe Michalisin, he stormed back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. None of Kasyanov’s four other opponents managed to win more than three games in a set against SHU’s No. 1 player. Kasyanov remained perfect against NEC opponents by taking down Quinnipiac’s Andrew Weeden (6-3, 6-3) and St. Francis’ (NY) Tita Mba (6-1, 6-0). He defeated Niagara’s Matthew Kane and Fordham’s Andriy Kulak by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores. Kasyanov owns a 27-6 singles record this season.
