Gaines is back in the Northeast Conference spotlight for the first time since her amazing display at the NEC Indoor Championships landed her a third straight MVP award. Competing outdoors for the second time this spring, Gaines recorded a blazing fast 100-meter hurdle time that ranks 35th on the NCAA Division I leader board through April 4. Already in championship form at the William & Mary’s Colonial Relays this past weekend, Gaines was the runner-up in a 53-entrant field. The reigning NEC Outdoor MVP clocked in at 13.64s, well under the 14.35 she ran to win last year’s NEC crown. Gaines’ time, which was second to only Villanova’s Shericka Ward, far surpasses the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships and is also significantly faster than the old NCAA regional standard (NCAA discontinued regional qualifying standards after 2010 season).
