Carper surged to the Northeast Conference lead in two events during what was his first outdoor appearance at the collegiate level. Lifting the lid of the 2011 outdoor campaign at the Wake Forest Open (Mar. 18), Carper impressed in both the javelin and 400-meter hurdles. The RMU rookie threw the jav 64.19m (210’ 7”) to claim bronze. The mark, which far surpasses the IC4A qualifying standard, tied the Colonials’ program record. He also ran the fastest 400-meter hurdle time the NEC thus far this March, clocking in at 55.25s.
