Sacred Heart won two games last week and Hermanson was the pitcher of record in both of them. The sophomore right-hander pitched to a 1.13 ERA over 8.0 total innings against No. 19 Connecticut and NEC rival Monmouth. He struck out eight and walked four over the two appearances (one start, one relief). Hermanson earned the start for Sacred Heart’s mid-week contest against the nationally-ranked Huskies. The second-year Pioneer tossed 6.0 innings of two-hit ball in SHU’s 5-4 victory. Hermanson struck out seven Huskies and left the game with a 5-1 lead after six. After watching his team drop the first three contests of the NEC schedule to Monmouth, Hermanson stepped up to prevent a possible four-game sweep. Entering in the 10th inning of a 2-2 game, the righty pitched 2.0 scoreless frames to pick up the win in relief. After SHU took a 5-2 lead in the top of the 11th, the he worked around a two-out hit in the bottom half of the inning and struck out a Monmouth pinch hitter to end it. Hermanson is the second member of Sacred Heart’s staff to claim the Akadema NEC Pitcher of the Week award in the last two weeks.
