Helman’s hot hitting was a major reason why Mount St. Mary’s won four games last week. The senior third baseman hit .632 (12-of-19) and drove in 10 runs over a six-game span during which the Mount posted a 4-2 mark. Helman safely hit his way on base during all six games and added three runs, three walks, one sacrifice, and a stolen base to his week-long line. He opened the week by going 4-for-7 (.571) at the plate with two runs and four RBI in the Mount’s doubleheader sweep of Maryland-Eastern Shore on March 15. The right-handed hitter became even hotter when Mount St. Mary’s opened its NEC schedule with a four-game set at Wagner. Helman batted .667 (8-of-12) against the Seahawks. Five of his six RBI against Wagner came in the series’ last two contests. After opening the series going 2-for-5 with a RBI in back-to-back losses, Helman helped the Mountaineers salvage a split of the four-game set. He went 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored and three RBI in Game 3, an 11-4 victory for the Mount. He drove in a run in the second inning and added two more RBI in the third as Mount St. Mary’s jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three. Helman had two hits and two RBI in the series finale, a 6-3 win by the Mountaineers.
