Jones continued his season-opening tear this past weekend at Kansas State. The junior catcher notched at least one hit in each of the Blackbirds’ four games in Manhattan, two of which were victories. LIU’s No.3 hitter batted .333 (5-for-15) for the series with two walks, four runs, and an RBI. He walked and came around to score in the first inning of game three, an eventual 4-2 triumph. Helping add to LIU’s 3-1 lead, Jones led off the fifth inning with a triple and scored on a Drew Walsh single. Jones sparked the Blackbirds’ five-run fourth inning that keyed a 6-5 win in the series finale, connecting on a lead-off single and eventually scoring on a base knock by Molbury. In the second game of set, Kansas State’s Matt Applegate took a no-hitter into the ninth inning only to watch Jones drop a 1-2 pitch into centerfield for a single. Jones, who has hit safely in 10 of the season’s first 11 games, leads the team with a .436 average.
