Thus far this semester, Botes has posted a trio of straight-set singles victories to go along with a notable doubles win. Botes, whose only singles losses this calendar year have come to Rutgers’ Amy Zhang and Columbia’s Nicole Bartnik, defeated a pair of Atlantic 10 players and an opponent from North Jersey rival Saint Peter’s. Occupying the No. 1 singles spot in FDU’s formidable lineup, Botes opened the month of February by defeating Casey Robinson, 6-1, 7-5, as part of a 6-1 team victory over Saint Joseph’s (Feb. 4). She accounted for one of FDU’s two team points in a setback to Massachusetts (Feb. 19), needing little time to top Yuliana Motyl, 6-0, 6-3. Botes posted another dominant singles win over Saint Peter’s Alexandra Livingston, 6-3, 6-0, to spearhead FDU’s 7-0 shutout of the Peahens (Feb. 25). Botes opened the spring semester by falling to Columbia’s top singles player, but not before she and doubles teammate Irina Dementyeva defeated the Lions’ regionally-ranked tandem of Bartnik and Bianca Sanon, 8-5, back on Jan. 29. She owns identical 3-2 singles and doubles records during the season’s second half.
