Last week, Bryant starter Peter Kelich held the honor, but this week it’s the Bulldogs’ closer who captures the Akadema NEC Pitcher of the Week award. Lefty Mark Andrews provided plenty of relief for Bryant in its series split at Virginia Tech. The senior southpaw posted a pair of five-out saves, while holding the Hokies hitless over 3.1 innings. Andrews entered with one on and one out in the eighth inning of the series opener. He induced a fly out and groundout to preserve Bryant’s 3-2 lead heading into the ninth. After an error leading off the ninth put the tying run on base, Andrews retired Bryant’s cleanup hitter on a fielder’s choice before getting the No. 5 batter to ground into a game-ending double play. Andrews also saved the series finale, registering the last five outs of the Bulldogs’ 5-2 victory. For the week, Andrews recorded 10 outs, walked one, and did not allow a hit or run.
