Boyd pared down his league-leading 400-meter dash time in what was his final tune-up for the 2011 NEC Indoor Championships, set to unfold in his native state of Maryland on February 12 & 13. The senior sprinter took second place out of 66 finishers in the college division of the 400-meter dash at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City. He crossed the line in 48.58s, well under the qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships in March. Boyd, the defending NEC 400m champion, is one of three LIU quarter-milers ranked amongst the top six on the league’s performance list.
