Gaines retains the NEC Track Athlete of the Week award after turning in her top two times of the season. As the NEC Championship meet looms closer, Gaines posted league-leading times in both the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles at the Great Dane Classic in New York City. She captured gold in the 60-meter hurdles, lowering her seasonal best to 8.54s in the process. The third-year Blackbird clocked in at 7.67s for the 60-meter dash. Her time ranked fourth overall at the meet and stood third amongst collegiate competitors behind only a pair of Pitt sprinters. Returning to the championship form that has earned her two NEC Indoor MVP awards, Gaines continued to climb up the national rankings in the hurdles. Her time of 8.54s, 0.04 second slower than the personal record she set at the 2010 ECAC Indoor Championships, ranks 44th, a nine-spot jump from last week, on the NCAA Division I leader board through Jan. 24.
