Vanek’s return to Navy resulted in her return to the NEC Rookie of the Week post she last occupied on December 7 as a result of her season-opening first-place finish at the Navy Lidlifter. Winning a gold medal in her second visit in six weeks to Navy’s Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse, Vanek vaulted 3.75m (12’ 3.5”) to top a field of 17 entrants at the Navy Invitational. She is the NEC pole vaulter to attain that height since former Mount St. Mary’s great Mandy Jenkins cleared 3.76m at the Penn State Invitational on January 26, 2007.
