Vanek reached heights no NEC pole vaulter has in four years and receives the NEC Women’s Athlete of the Week award to commerate the occassion. The first-year Mountaineer, who had already ranked atop the NEC performance list thanks to her season-opening performance at the Navy Lidlifter, upped her league-leading mark this past weekend. Winning a gold medal in her second visit in six weeks to Navy’s Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse, Vanek vaulted 3.75m (12’ 3.5”) to top a field of 17 entrants at the Navy Invitational. She is the NEC pole vaulter to attain that height since former Mount St. Mary’s great Mandy Jenkins cleared 3.76m at the Penn State Invitational on January 26, 2007.
