Two-time NEC indoor high jump champion Dean Brown has graduated, but a Terrier still resides atop the NEC performance list. Looking like the heir apparent to the crown Brown held for the past two years, Fajoyomi cleared 2.11m (6’11”) at the New York City Gotham Cup. The mark was more than good enough to win the Gotham Cup and qualify the 6-foot-5 freshman for the IC4A Championships in March. Fajoyomi is one of only 26 NCAA Division I high jumpers to reach that height thus far this season. The first-year Terrier’s performance came one week after Monmouth rookie Tommy Butler made himself the early NEC favorite by leaping 2.07m (6’ 9.5”) at the Metro Coaches Invitational, which was also held at New York City’s 168th Street Armory. Butler, who upped his seed mark to 2.10m this past week, sits second behind Fajoyomi on the conference leader board.
