Evans made her season debut at last week’s LIU Turkey Classic, and the junior point guard’s presence was immediately felt by the tournament champion Blackbirds. After missing the season’s first three games to injury, the former Louisville transfer provided a spark in double-digit victories over McNeese State and Boston University. Evans averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, doing so in limited playing time. LIU’s floor general poured in 31 points during 26 minutes of floor time to lead the Blackbirds to their first Turkey Classic title since 2007. She scored nine points in 11 minutes off the bench during a 71-56 win over McNeese before netting 22 points over 17 minutes of action in a 71-59 title game victory over BU. Evans helped LIU erase a seven-point halftime deficit to the BU Terriers. Her two free throws tied the game at 40-40 with 14:44 remaining and her layup eight seconds later gave the Blackbirds their first lead of the game. She then sealed the victory with 12 points over the final 3:48. On her way to averaging 1.2 points per minute last week, Evans shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the field and converted at an 82.4 percent clip (14-of-17) from the charity stripe.
