Kelly spearheaded the Great Dane’s defensive effort during a 28-19 victory over Monmouth that allowed Albany to clinch a fifth consecutive winning season. The senior defensive end made nine tackles, 1.5 of which resulted in a loss, and successfully defended a pair of passes. Six of Kelly’s nine stops limited the offense to a gain of two yards or fewer. The former New Jersey Shore Conference high school standout came up with his second career interception at a key juncture in the third quarter. With Monmouth looking for the game-tying score and facing a 3rd-and-3 from Albany’s 23-yard line, Kelly picked off Kyle Frazier in the backfield and returned the ball 38 yards into MU territory. In the fourth quarter, he batted down another Frazier pass on 1st-and-10. Kelly, who grew up one block from the Monmouth campus, finished his career with 137 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
