Seventy-seven pins was the closest anyone came to matching Danielle McEwan at the Northeast Conference Fall Meet. Two of the last three team tournaments contested by Fairleigh Dickinson have ended with McEwan claiming Most Valuable Performer honors. In what was the Knights’ second competition since McEwan’s MVP performance lifted FDU to the 2010 NCAA title, McEwan topped a field of 73 bowlers at the NEC Fall Meet. The righty anchor posted a total pinfall of 2,102 over nine traditional games at the first of three regular season meets the NEC will sponsor this season. Leading Fairleigh Dickinson to a 7-2 record that ties the Knights’ atop the NEC standings with three other teams, McEwan averaged a meet-high 233.6 average. She eclipsed the 210-pin mark in all but one of nine traditional matches. McEwan bowled at least a 221 in six of the contests and turned in the two highest individual game scores by an NEC bowler thus far this season. She opened Day 2 of the meet by producing a 277 game in 239-pin defeat of defending conference champion Sacred Heart. Contributing to FDU’s fourth 1,100-plus game of the weekend, McEwan closed by registering the highest score - 279 - of the entire two-day event in a victory over Garden State rival Monmouth. The reigning NEC Rookie of the Year converted 65.0 percent of her strike opportunities and posted a .944 filled frames percentage. The only FDU bowler to start all nine matches, McEwan left only five opens over two days of anchor duty. Her NEC Player of the Week after comes seven days after senior teammate Tracy Ganjoin captured the honor for her performance at the season-opening Jersey Jamboree.
