Dementyeva punctuates her phenomenal fall season by capturing her third NEC Player of the Week award in one month’s time. The FDU junior won three singles matches last week, two of which came at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Dartmouth. Dementyeva won back-to-back qualifying matches to earn a spot in the ITA Regional main singles draw. She opened by topping three-time NEC Rookie of the Week Juliet Labarthe of rival Quinnipiac in three sets, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-4. In the ensuing qualifying match, she posted a straight-set triumph over Boston University’s Jessica Linero, 6-3, 6-3, to advance into the main bracket. Her run ended in the Round of 64 where she fell to No. 6 seed Anna Edelman of Binghamton who eventually advanced into Tuesday’s semifinal. With FDU contesting its first dual match of the season earlier in the week, Dementyeva posted victories at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She needed little time to defeat Seton Hall’s Rocio Portela, 6-2, 6-1, as part of the Knights’ 6-1 team win over their North Jersey rivals.
