McCoy made for a career day at defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut State. The sophomore running back averaged 10.2 yards per carry on the way to the best single-game rushing total (246) the NEC has seen since 2008. The second-year Duke carried 24 times for a career-high 246 yards in the 31-29 setback and added 10 yards on one reception. His 48-yard touchdown burst opened the second half scoring and cut Duquesne’s deficit to 17-13 with 13:36 to go in the third. His 51-yard rush down to Central’s 14-yard line set up a second-quarter field goal and his 46-yard scamper returned Duquesne to the red zone in the waning minutes of the third quarter. McCoy’s 246 rushing yards are the most by an NEC ball carrier since Albany’s David McCarty ran for 271 yards during a 28-0 win over Jacksonville in the 2008 Gridiron Classic. McCoy’s prior career-best effort was a 195-yard day at Nicholls State in 2009.
