Shams did not disappoint as the No. 1 seed at the Bucknell Invitational. The FDU sophomore conquered the Flight A singles bracket by putting together a trio of straight-set victories. He began by defeating George Mason’s Kevin McMillen, 7-6, 6-1, in a quarterfinal match and followed by notching a quick 6-3, 6-0 win over Colgate’s Alec Goldstein. Shams completed his tear through the bracket by defeating UConn’s Scott Warden, 7-6, 6-4, in the title match. The singles crown capped what was quite a week for Shams. In Fairleigh Dickinson’s first dual match of the fall, Shams downed Hofstra’s top player Antonio Pena, 6-4, 6-3, as part of a 7-0 team victory. He also teamed with Peter Skvarka to capture the Flight A doubles title at Bucknell.
