Gricheno posted a pair of victories over quality opponents at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Invitational. Competing on the same courts that were occupied by a number of the world’s top players earlier this month, Gricheno claimed third place in the Flight E singles bracket. First, he defeated St. John’s Matty Najfeld in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (8). Next, he knocked off one of the Patriot League’s finest in a third-set super tiebreaker. Gricheno’s 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory over Lehigh’s Collin Laffey, a 2010 First Team All-Patriot selection, landed the FDU sophomore a spot in the semifinal where he lost to eventual champion Cameron Ghorboni of Dartmouth.
