Spearheading Duquesne’s dramatic victory over Pioneer League preseason favorite Dayton, Patterson produced the NEC’s highest passing output since October 2009. The sophomore signal caller completed 27 of 40 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Patterson added 49 yards on the ground and his 375 yards of total offense were the most by a NEC quarterback since Duquesne’s Connor Dixon torched Bucknell for 447 yards in the 2008 opener. Of his 40 passes none were more consequential than his last. With Duquesne trailing by three points in the game’s final minute, Patterson found tight end Sean Bunevich on an eight-yard scoring strike that gave the Dukes a 35-31 lead with 00:21 remaining. His first two touchdown passes (31, 13) allowed Duquesne to erase a 21-7 deficit in the final 2:45 of the first half.
