Earning her first Akadema/NEC Player of the Week, McMellen was the spark plug at the top of Saint Francis (PA)’s line-up during a successful road trip through Staten Island and Brooklyn this past weekend. She hit safely in all four games to extend her hitting streak to five games. McMellen hit .583 and scored five runs in SFPA's three wins, first over Wagner (two) and an upset of league-leader Long Island. She went 3-for-4 and scored three runs in a wild 7-6 win over WC in Saturday's first contest, helping the Red Flash snap a three-game NEC losing streak. She then went 1-for-2 and scored a run in SFPA's 2-1 victory to pull off the sweep. McMellen continued her strong weekend to go 2-for-4 against NEC-leader LIU, hitting a triple and scoring a run. The shortstop extended her hitting streak with a 1-for-2 effort in the second game against the Blackbirds. During her five-game hitting streak, the sophomore has raised her batting average from .236 to .285 with 10 hits in 17 at-bats.
