Hughes continues his tussle with Sacred Heart’s Kirill Kasyanov by reclaiming the NEC Player of the Week award from his Merritt Parkway rival. On the way to his second weekly honor this spring, Hughes posted a pair of straight-set victories at No. 2 singles. The fourth-year Bobcat topped Boston University’s Alex Hallenbeck, 6-2, 6-4, as part of Quinnipiac’s 5-2 team triumph. Hughes earned his second victory of the week against Chris Ujkic of defending NEC champion Sacred Heart. The 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ujkic was payback for Hughes’ lone setback of the week, a No. 2 doubles loss to Ujkic and Cole Conrad.
