Fernandez’s record-breaking javelin toss earned him first place at Virginia’s Lou Onesty Invitational. Producing a winning throw of 64.38m (212’ 2”), Fernandez broke Mount St. Mary’s 18-year old program record that was set by current head coach Jim Stevenson. Improving upon his qualifying mark for the IC4A Championships, the second-year Mountaineer broke into the Top 50 on the national leader board. In addition to standing 47th nationally, the distance ranks second amongst a talented field of NEC javelin throwers. The first seven men on the conference’s performance list have all achieved IC4A qualifying marks.
