Accounting for a .533 on-base percentage, Avella hit safely in all three games while totaling three walks and a hit-by-pitch. The heavy-hitting run producer was at the center of Wagner’s 11-9 win in the series opener. After a first inning groundout, Avella proceeded to reach base safely in each of his next five trips to the plate. For the game, he went 2-for-3 with two bases on balls, a hit-by-pitch, three RBI, and two runs scored. His clutch two-run round-tripper staked Wagner to an 8-7 lead in the eighth inning. He blasted another home run, a three-run bomb, in the series finale to move into third place on Wagner’s all-time RBI list (126).
