Sjoerds becomes the second consecutive FDU player to win the NEC Rookie of the Week award, taking over the post teammate Peter Skvarka held last week. The Dutchman picked up a victory against an Ivy League player this past week when he downed Brown’s Timmy Klanke at No. 3 singles. The FDU freshman eased past his opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Trying for his second win in two days, Sjoerds came up short against Dartmouth’s Stephen Grief, falling 6-2, 6-3. Sjoerds owns an 8-7 dual match record in singles play as a rookie.
