Skvarka has reached both peaks and valleys since the spring semester began, but his three victories at No. 2 singles are enough to make him the NEC Rookie of the Month. The FDU freshman opened the championship season by knocking off Lehigh’s Leland Richardson, 6-2, 6-2, to score a key team point in the Knights’ 4-3 win over the Mountain Hawks. Skvarka fell to his St. John’s counterpart in his second match of the spring, but quickly bounced back by posting a straight-sets win over Queens’ James Preston. Skvarka’s third win helped FDU post its first team triumph over Army since 1986. The native of Slovakia took down West Point’s Chris Albornoz with little difficulty, 6-0, 6-3.
