Hidalgo has risen to the challenge of playing No. 1 singles in her first year of collegiate competition. The native of Ecuador has won four of six matches, all at the top of the lineup, since spring season began. She opened the semester by stringing together a trio of victories, the first of which came against NJIT’s Nina Mayevska, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Next time out, she posted a straight-sets victory over Saint Peter’s Kristen Chen, 6-3, 6-3. Hidalgo did not drop a game in taking the first set from Hofstra’s Zoe Taylor, but would need three sets to secure the 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 win. After encountering back-to-back setbacks against opponents from Army and Fairleigh Dickinson, Hidalgo rebounded by dominating a NEC rival. She provided the team’s lone point in a setback to Sacred Heart, easing past Kate Donnelly, 6-0, 6-1.
