Watson held Winthrop’s scalding-hot lineup in check during Wagner’s season opener. The reigning NEC Pitcher of the Year allowed only two runs over 8.0 innings of work against an opponent that owns a .386 team batting average and had scored a combined 48 runs in its first four games. The 6-foot-2 right-hander surrendered only four hits and struck out four, becoming increasingly more effective as the game wore on. After Winthrop tied the game at 2-2 on an RBI single in the fourth inning, Watson closed the door by retiring 13 of the next 14 men to face him. He threw 87 pitches in his 2010 debut, leaving with the game tied.
