Palmer exceeded the 20-point mark in each of Long Island’s two victories last week. The sophomore forward averaged a double-double (24.0 ppg, 13.0 rpg) over a pair of NEC wins that elevated the Blackbirds (6-2) into sole possession of third place in the conference standings, one game behind league leaders Sacred Heart and Robert Morris. Palmer started the week by pouring in a season-high 27 points during Long Island’s 67-60 triumph over New York City rival Wagner. The 5-foot-10 forward sunk 14 of 16 free throw attempts against the Seahawks, coming within one make of former all-NEC selection Tamika Dudley’s program record (15 - Jan. 29, 2000). Helping run LIU’s win streak to four, Palmer accounted for 21 points and a career-high 19 rebounds as the Blackbirds topped the Mount. The 19 caroms surpassed her previous best of 16 and account for the highest single-game total the NEC has seen this season. Palmer, the 2009 NEC Rookie of the Year, shot 54 percent (13-of-24) from the field last week.
