Johnson was the leading scorer during a two-win week that moved the Blackbirds (4-2 NEC) into a three-way tie for third place in the NEC standings. Shooting an incredible 80 percent (16-of-20) from the floor, the junior forward averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds during the LIU’s NEC road victories over Wagner and Mount St. Mary’s. Johnson’s 17 points, six rebounds, and clutch play down the stretch helped LIU past the Mount. She scored three of the Blackbirds’ last four buckets, all in the final 2:46, thrice bumping Long Island’s lead from one to three points in the 62-59 squeaker. Johnson totaled19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists on the back end of the two-game swing, which saw Long Island post a 14-point win over cross-town rival Wagner. Johnson, a 2008 NEC All-Rookie selection, has developed into the Blackbirds’ leading scorer (15.4 ppg) and the NEC’s top-ranked shooter (.604 FG%).
