Placide closed his season just as he opened it, turning in a remarkable special teams effort that included a kickoff return for a touchdown. The junior defensive back’s 89-yard kickoff return in the second quarter of Saturday’s season finale against Albany matches the one he had on opening day. Placide, who also stuffed a punt and recovered an onsides kick in the season opener, blocked two punts against Albany. After a Vinny Esposito touchdown pass increased the Great Danes lead to 21-7 with 4:53 remaining in the second quarter, Placide immediately answered by taking the ensuing kickoff back for six points. His efforts on punt blocks twice gave Wagner a short field in the second half. Winning his NEC-high fourth Special Teams Player of the Week award, Placide unseated RMU kicker Garrett Clawson who earned the honor for three consecutive weeks.
