Nelson came within one win of conquering the Flight D singles bracket at the Quinnipiac Invitational. The rookie Bobcat won back-to-back matches against opponents from Nutmeg State rival Fairfield in advancing to the championship round. After a straight-sets quarterfinal victory over Mike Lessing (7-6, 7-6), Nelson outlasted another Stag, Bob Kelly, in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. His run ended at the hands of fellow Bobcat Dillon Kraus in final where he retired down one set. Nelson was also the runner-up in the B Flight doubles competition, teaming with Alex Lazerowich to post wins over tandems from UConn and Sacred Heart.
