Competing in the Brooks Paul Short Run Brown Race on Oct. 2, Wertner took third place overall in a field of 332 harriers from 38 teams. The junior’s time of 25:11 paced the Red Flash on the 8K course on the campus of Lehigh University, helping the squad tie for sixth with NEC foe Quinnipiac on the team leaderboard. Wertner was the first NEC participant to break the tape as he led the Flash for the second time in as many races. This award marks Wertner's first since capturing three NEC Rookie of the Week accolades in 2007.
