Babic’s first competition of season results in her returning to a place she has become awfully familiar with over the past two years. After winning the Eastern Championships No. 1 Flight crown, the Long Island senior collects the 11th NEC Player of the Week award of her career. Babic cruised through the first two rounds of the Flight A bracket, defeating Ira Aleksova of St. John’s (6-2, 6-1) and URI’s Kirsten Leikem (6-2, 6-1) in straight sets. She upset the Tournament’s top seed, Army’s Annie Houghton, 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals before downing Massachusetts’ Magdelena Ploch, the No. 3 seed, to earn a championship matchup with Elmine Botes of Northeast Conference rival Fairleigh Dickinson. Babic prevailed, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7.
