Paredes won four consecutive matches, all in straight sets, to conquer the Flight A bracket at the UConn Invitational. The Bulldog clinched the individual title by downing Holy Cross’ Matt Wierzel, 6-0, 6-2, in the championship round. Paredes’ road to the title match consisted of victories over Bucknell’s Gregg Cohenca and pair of opponents from the host Huskies. The NEC Player of the Week eliminated UConn’s No. 1 player Joe Goldstein, 6-4, 6-0, in the quarterfinal round and followed by knocking off the Huskies’ Jaie Yon, 6-4, 6-4, in the semis. Paredes’ nod marks the first time in three weeks the NEC Player of the Week award is not in the hands of a freshman.
