Maher enjoyed a memorable week of milestones, one that culminates in Fairleigh Dickinson’s first Akadema honor of the sort in four years. Maher batted .600 while becoming both the program’s most prolific base stealer (70) and all-time hits leader (199). The Knights’ leadoff batter went 15-for-25 on his way to five multiple-hit performances, eight runs, and eight RBI. Maher brought some pop to the top of the batting order where he slugged .920. The senior outfielder saved all six of his extra-base hits (5 2B, HR), eight RBI, and eight runs for Fairleigh Dickinson’s NEC sweep of Long Island. After a 3-for-4 day at Rutgers, Maher scored a run and recorded at least one RBI in each of the four games against LIU. He swiped two bases, the second of which gave him the record, during a 20-12 victory that put Fairleigh Dickinson on the brink of its first NEC sweep in three years. His first of three hits in the series finale, a 16-8 FDU win, moved him past Jeff Karpell (Class of 1999) for the all-time lead. A number of Knights have received the Akadema Pitcher of the Week moniker in recent years, including John Meadus this season, but Maher is FDU’s first Player of the Week honoree since Stewart Goodwin (Apr. 11, 2005).
