Mayer pitched the lone shutout of a run-heavy week around the Northeast Conference. The senior right-hander went the distance against Monmouth and silenced a lineup that averages 8.8 runs per game against league opponents. Dealing the Hawks, who are batting .315 as a team, their first shutout of the season, Mayer scattered five hits and issued only one free pass over 7.0 innings. The 5-foot-10 hurler struck out a career-high 11 hitters on the way to tying former Quinnipiac hurler Tom Signore (Class of 1985) for the all-time lead in wins (21). Mayer, the Bobcats’ second Akadema Pitcher of the Week honoree this season (Chris Gloor - Apr. 27), became the first man in the program’s Division I history to win 20 career games earlier this season.
