During the final weekend of regular season NEC competition, Porter tossed a pair of complete game one-hit shutouts, fanning seven and walking one. The junior’s performance in a highly anticipated match-up with Robert Morris on Apr. 15 helped the Blackbirds secure sole possession of first place and the right to host the 2009 NEC Softball Championship on May 8-9. In the 3-0 opening triumph, Porter struck out two and allowed just one hit. A day later against Saint Francis (PA), the Redmond, WA product fanned five and scattered another lone hit to help LIU post its second straight shutout. In a non-conference tilt with Seton Hall earlier in the week, Porter threw 7.2 innings, striking out nine and walking three as the Blackbirds suffered a tight 2-3 extra-inning loss. Over 21.2 innings of work, Porter sent down 16 on strikes, scattered 10 hits, issued four walks and posted a 0.65 ERA, while she currently owns a 1.96 cumulative ERA to rank fourth in the NEC. The righthander has also held opponents to a .211 batting clip, which is good for third in the league, while her 150 Ks place her in a share of third on the loop. Porter also leads the NEC with three saves so far this season.
