Korshunova is playing some of her best tennis only days before the 2009 NEC Tennis Championships (Apr. 17-19). FDU’s No. 1 player went 3-1 in singles competition last week highlighted by a key NEC victory over her Sacred Heart counterpart. Korshunova easily downed the Pioneers’ Kate Donnelly, 6-3, 6-2, in leading the Knights to a 4-3 team win. The native of Latvia needed three sets to defeat a pair of players from the America East Conference, but prevailed over her formidable opponents nonetheless. Coming back from down one set in both matches, Korshunova knocked off UMBC’s Ana Mungo (1-6, 6-3, 10-8) and Stony Brook’s Katherine Hanson (4-6, 6-3, 10-5).
