Hitting at least one home run in each contest last week, deLong helped MU run its winning streak to six games by virtue of a .583 batting clip (7-for-12) as she tallied five of the squad’s six round trippers. The sophomore also drove in 12 runs, logged a slugging percentage of 2.000, crossed the plate eight times and added a stolen base. In MU’s doubleheader sweep of Manhattan on Apr. 8, deLong drove in seven runs and belted three homers, two of which came in the opener and included a second-inning grand slam. In game two, the Rothschild, WI native blasted a walk-off two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning. On Saturday against the Mount, deLong picked up right where she left off as she connected for the game-winning two-run dinger in the third and sent another one over the fence during the nightcap, which marked her 12th of the season and placed her in a share of the program’s single-season home run record with Maryann Soares (2001). So far this year, deLong paces the Hawks in a slew of offensive categories with a .427 batting average (second in NEC), 1.034 slugging percentage (first in NEC), .474 on-base percentage (second in NEC), 35 runs scored (first in NEC), 38 hits (tie for fifth in NEC), 35 RBI (first in NEC), seven triples (first in NEC), 12 home runs (first in NEC), 92 total bases (first in NEC) and 15 stolen bases (second in NEC).
