Eyler stung the ball throughout the first Northeast Conference series of the season. Helping 2008 NEC Champion Mount St. Mary’s begin its title defense in a big way, Eyler compiled a .571 (8-for-14) batting average and a sky-high 1.571 slugging percentage in a four-game series sweep of rival Quinnipiac. The sophomore right fielder homered in three of four games against the Bobcats, including a pair of two-run dingers during the Mount’s 11-2 win in game three. Eyler came through in the clutch when he singled amidst the Mount’s four-run ninth-inning rally that yielded a 13-10 victory in game two. Two pitches after Kyle Kane homered, the second-year Mountaineer deposited the ball over the left field fence in staking the team to a 2-0 second-inning lead of an 8-4 victory in series finale. For the week, which also included his 1-for-3 (.333) performance in a non-conference contest against George Mason, Eyler boasted a .579 on-base percentage, slugged 1.353, drove in nine runs, and scored another seven.
