Babic won all three No. 1 singles matches she contested last week to run her win streak to eight and capture NEC Player of the Week honors for the fifth time this academic year. Her latest weekly award, the 10th such accolade of her LIU career, ties the single-season conference record she set as a sophomore when she became the first-ever women’s player to hold the honor more than four times in any given season. Helping the Blackbirds to the first of team victories on the week, a 4-3 triumph over NEC foe Sacred Heart, Babic quickly cruised past the Pioneers’ Kate Donnelly, 6-0, 6-0. She needed little time to defeat the No. 1 singles players from Bryant and Monmouth as well. Babic’s straight-sets victory (6-1, 6-1) over Morganne Downing was part of LIU’s 5-2 team victory over NEC reclassifying member Bryant. The dominant Babic held serve throughout her final victory of the week, too, a 6-1, 6-0 win over Monmouth’s Sarah Ragan.
