In its annual showdown with Monmouth on Sunday, Mount St. Mary’s came away with a 10-9 victory, thanks in part to the play of McTavish, who made five saves and claimed a ground ball. The win improved the Mountaineers to a perfect 3-0 in NEC play and was the third straight victory for the Mount following an 0-8 start. After Monmouth trimmed the lead to 10-9 with 1:02 to play, the Hawks won the draw control and fired a bouncing shot at McTavish, who made the critical save with 53 seconds remaining that enabled the Mount to run out the clock. A Mount Airy, MD product, McTavish now ranks fifth in the NEC with a 13.14 goals against average.
