Boyd batted .421 (8-for-19) and drove in a team-high six runs to lead Monmouth during its four-win week. Showing a good eye at the plate and using his speed on the base paths, the freshman outfielder walked four times and stole four bases in five attempts over the five-game span. Working his way to a .522 on-base percentage, Boyd reached base three times in each of his first two games last week, a 10-9 setback to Florida Atlantic and a 7-5 extra-inning triumph over Navy. After the Hawks took a 6-5 lead one batter earlier, Boyd delivered a two-out, RBI single to double MU’s advantage over the Midshipmen. The left-handed hitter went on to punish Massachusetts’ pitching staff by going 5-for-6 with a walk, four RBI, and two runs scored in two victories over the Minutemen. Boyd’s lead-off bunt single sparked Monmouth’s game-tying two-run rally in the eighth inning of a 5-4 win over UMass.
