Lane won all four of his No. 3 singles matches during the month of February to become the third Bobcat (James Kewi & John Hughes) to receive a Northeast Conference award during the 2008-09 campaign. The Quinnipiac rookie took down Boston University’s Bill Krings in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5, to help the Bobcats to a 5-2 team victory, which was their first of the championship spring season. He only needed two sets to defeat Hofstra’s Tytus Stempniewicz, downing the Pride’s No. 3 player by a 6-3, 6-1 count as part of a 7-0 team shutout win. Lane was also a factor in the Bobcats’ 5-2 win over Bryant. He defeated the Bulldogs’ Dylan Whiting, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Lane’s victory over Bucknell’s Jon Brenner produced a team point in Quinnipiac’s lone loss of the semester, a 4-3 setback to the Bison.
