Gaines shows no signs of slowing in what has been a remarkable freshman campaign on the track. On her way to a third Road Runner Sports NEC Track honor in four weeks, Gaines claimed the conference lead in the 60-meter dash by crossing the line in 7.52s at the annual Metropolitan Championships. Her time placed her second overall at the meet, only .03 of a second behind St. John’s sprinter Phobay Kutu-Akoi.
